Bishop of Grantham, Nicholas Chamberlain, opens up on being gay

a

The Bishop of Grantham, Nicholas Chamberlain, is presently the first in the Church of England of Britain to announce that he is in a gay relationship.

The diocesan revealed recently that he has been with his partner for a long time and included that they are in a "dedicated" and "cherishing" relationship.

The 52-year-old minister was appointed in 2015 by the Ecclesiastical overseer of Canterbury, Justin Welby, who was said to have known about his sexuality.

Chamberlain uncovered all these when he was informed that an anonymous UK Sunday daily paper was going to blow the whistle to the general population about his sexuality. He then addressed The Watchman and added that he would not like to make 'a major thing' about turning out.

The minister told the daily paper: ‘It was not my decision to make a big thing about coming out. People know I’m gay, but it’s not the first thing I’d say to anyone. Sexuality is part of who I am, but it’s my ministry that I want to focus on. I hope I’ll be able to be a standard-bearer for all people as a gay man. And I really hope that I’ll be able to help us move on beyond matters of sexuality.’

It is trusted that he has turned into the first minister to reveal being gay.

Defending Bishop Chamberlain, Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby said: Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby ‘His appointment as Bishop of Grantham was made on the basis of his skills and calling to serve the church in the Diocese of Lincoln. He lives within the Bishops’ guidelines and his sexuality is completely irrelevant to his office.’

A Church of England spokesman said: 'Nicholas has not deluded anybody and has been open and honest if inquired. The matter is not mystery, in spite of the fact that it is private similar to the case with all associations/connections.'
