Two friends who drowned at Grand Beach on Monday identified

Friends identify two children who drowned at Grand Beach. David Medina, left, and Jhonalyn Javier.


The two children drowned Monday evening in Grand Beach, Winnipeg, Canada.


They had only recently moved to the area within the past few years.The kids drowned while swimming after one of the children’s parents lost sight of them around 7:30 p.m., according to RCMP.

Friends on social media have identified them as Jhonalyn Javier, 11, and David Medina, 12.


David was just shy of his 13th birthday and his family migrated to Winnipeg in November 2014. They are originally from Dasmarinas, Cavite.

While Jhonalyn and her family arrived here last August from Angeles City, Pampanga.

“It feels unreal,” read one Facebook post about the two children. “Goodnight (David and Jhonalyn). In God’s time we will see you again.”

Viewing of both kids will be on Saturday evening, August 6 at Mosaic Funeral Home (1839 Inkster Blvd)

An aunt of the 12-year-old Winnipeg boy who drowned at Grand Beach on Monday evening told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation that her nephew as a sweet and polite child who "loves hugs and kisses."
