Trinidad and Tobago fights Zika virus by fining those with abandoned properties

The Trinidad and Tobago Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh recently imposed higher fines upon owners of abandoned and overgrown properties in its mosquito eradication exercises to fight the Zika virus.

From a fine of $500 to $3500, the ministry has doubled efforts to address the issue of source reduction of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito which is responsible for the spread of the Zika virus, yellow fever and dengue among other illnesses.

Zika virus is now a global threat to public health given its presence in approximately 70 countries.

Maybe the Nigerian government can learn a thing or two in their fight against mosquitoes in the country?
