Dallas Police Officers Shot: First deceased officer identified

                  


The viral graphic video aired by KDFW-TV shows a gunman ambushing and shooting a police officer in the back, in the night of  Thursday, July 7, in Dallas during in incident that left multiple officers dead and wounded.


The video shows the gunman exchanging fire with the officer and then walking up behind him to shoot him.

The gunfire began just before 9 p.m. as a peaceful rally was held by members of Black Lives Matter in response to two recent fatal police shootings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota Alton Sterling and Philando Castile.


Snipers shot 11 Dallas police officers  and five have now been confirmed dead. The gunmen were shot from elevated positions at the Black Lives Rally march/rally according to a statement by the Dallas police chief, which was posted on the Dallas Police Department’s Facebook page and Twitter handle.

Speaking from Warsaw, President Barack Obama has termed the attack a “vicious, calculated and despicable attack on law enforcement.”


The first deceased officer has been identified. He’s Officer Brent Thompson, 43, a former military trainer of Afghan and Iraqi police. He is both a father and grandfather; he's pictured with his grandson.
