NFF Vice President probably need psychologists for the lesbians in the football teams

Homosexuality is a criminal offence in Nigeria, which attracts a 14-year jail term, so it's understandable when people don't want to 'come out' and let others know that they're gay.

One of today's news highlights is the conversation that the first Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Seyi Akinwunmi had with Punch Newspapers.

According to him, 'the problem with female football in Nigeria is lesbianism'.

He, however, did not explain how, given that lesbianism is understood to be common in female football globally – not just Nigeria.

Akinwunmi further accused “coaches” of taking advantage of female footballers.

He was speaking at the weekend in Ibadan, Oyo state, at a sports personality programme, Hot Seat.

It was organised by the state chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).

“My passion for female football is as great as it is for grassroots football. But in reality, there are lots of problems with developing female football. It costs more and returns less. There are fewer players and less interest in female football than male football. But we have no excuse,” he said, according to Punch.

“Lesbianism kills teams. People are afraid to talk about it. The coaches take advantage of the girls, so there is much more to build in female football.

“Last year, I think the most problematic person to the chairman of female league was Seyi Akinwumi, I launched several attacks just to ensure things worked accordingly. So, I decided that look, if it’s so difficult for you, let us show you how it’s done.”

There is yet no scientific evidence that sexuality affects performance in sports  but HealthJourno looked at how it is that sexual orientations can affect teamwork; which is what a football team is basically about.

I read this article which talks about the  'critique of teamwork' pointed out the significant problems and difficulties that are experienced while building teamwork among individuals.

It looked at issues such cultural and personal differences, differences in future prospects, professional and workplace issues, social differences, education levels and gender disparities. It also cited Dyer, 1995 which states thar communication barriers, lack of training of employees on teamwork poor commitment from all stakeholders undermine the spirit of team work .

On social disparities, one of the thoughts is that differences in individual social life among the employees in the company are a major factor that affects teamwork spirit. Such disparities as in the way some employees consider themselves to be having a better lifestyle than others will somehow erode the relationships among themselves.

Everybody considers his or her lifestyle as the best to be adopted by others. In most cases conflicts arise when people take different perspectives in social issues such as homosexuality, lesbianism and other social issues.

These are frequent sources of conflicts in a team especially when they are taken at a personal point of view. In the long run the organization will require the service of a counselor to provide psychological advice to workers who may be affected emotionally because of the actions of other teammates.
