17-year-old Elyse Miller-Kennedy who got her driver’s licence just five weeks before, was involved in the head-on collision with a French couple on August 3.
She was trapped in the car for two hours and then airlifted to Cairns Hospital, Australia before being flown to Townsville Hospital’s intensive care unit, after suffering extensive injuries.
She lost the battle on Wednesday August 11, surrounded by beloved family and friends.
It's believed she was travelling on the right side of the road. One of the French couple that collided with her, is still hospitalised with a leg injury.
Family, friends, community leaders and Miss World Australia organisers have all paid tribute to the model.
