Why do Nigerian beauticians use saliva on women's eyelashes?

Disgusting, right? As in, 'nyamma' like Nigerians would say to express disgust!

Have you ever been at one of those salons (both local and some posh ones) and tried to get eyelash extensions on?

After adding the glue and the extensions, especially the strip lashes, a bit of moist is needed to keep it in place.

And then you see them put their index finger on their tongue, then use the moisture to  "arrange the lash".

The first time I saw it, I was in shock and then I saw it happen again!

What does it take to have a bit of water on the table or even from a running tap?

Many diseases are spread through the saliva and it is important to be in the know, so you don't start wondering where that infection came from.

Various diseases are spread through saliva and most of them are caused by viruses which can attack all parts of the body - the skin, nerves, digestive system, muscular and skeletal systems.

Viruses such as viral meningitis are contagious. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), and cytomegalovirus (CMV), Herpes Simplex Virus-1 (HSV-1), Hand, foot, and mouth disease, caused by Coxsackie virus,   Streptococcus, can cause an array of infections, including gum disease and strep throat, are some of them.

Even colds and flus (and other respiratory infections) can potentially be spread through the saliva.

The infection spreads from person to person through contact with these sores by the skin or mucous membranes.

The spread of infectious microbes through the saliva can occur when natural resistance in the mouth is reduced. Do you know the healh status of that beautician?

For example, people who are dehydrated have reduced salivary flow and four times more bacteria in their mouths.

It's important to note also that antibiotics are not effective in the treatment of viral diseases.

Have you ever experienced it?
