Residents of Lagos state in Nigeria, are used to seeing beggars harass them for money on the streets.
It could either be on pedestrian bridges where they are sometimes lined up or in traffic jams.
One of the most heartbreaking of them all is when these beggars carry children. I have personally seen at least 2 sets of 'triplets' on this bridge in the video.
I was so touched when I saw the first set, I gave them some money and then 5 steps down the line, there was another set of 'triplets'.
That was where my defences went up...triplets are not that common! I didn't give the second set of children any money.
So you can imagine the shock when this video by Battabox got to me. It reveals that these children aren't even triplets and they were rented for the purpose!
How callous can one be? Putting children inside such weather and wearing thick clothings as well. There are times when the sun in Lagos can go as high as 39-40°c and you out babies under such conditions?!
The people behind it should be jailed and their mothers obviously need to have their heads checked.
What level of poverty would make you do such to your own child?!
What if the child gets sick? How much can you make to keep the children in good health under such circumstances?
This is appalling indeed...
