After her amazing musical performance on the Today stage, Alicia Keys, 35, joined the daytime show to talk about her latest album, In Common and to explain the motive behind her liberating movement.

“I think it came from, because we put so many limitations on ourselves,” she said. “I think we put limitations on each other. Society puts limitations on us. And in a lot of ways, I’m sick of it. Over it, to be honest.” The “Girl On Fire” singer also noted that her stand against using make-up in her daily routine was supposed to suggest that people should love each other for what’s on the inside rather than ON the outside. “It would be so amazing to just embrace each other how we are,” she added. “I think the most important thing is you do what feels good for you.”

Alicia also sat with the show’s hosts, Tamron Hall, 45, Al Roker, 62, and Billy Bush, 44, to speak more in depth about what she was trying to achieve. During the brief chat, the singer even inspired Tamron to take off all of her make-up with some removal wipes. “I love the message,” Tamron told her as she swiped off her own foundation and eyeliner.
Alicia went on to explain that she had nothing against make-up. “I love make-up too,” she continued. “It’s about how you feel. It’s about who you are. It’s about being who you are and not being told who you should be. This conversation shows our obsession with the standard we hold women and beauty.”
Alicia as of late stood out as truly newsworthy after she showed up at the 2016 MTV Video Music Grants, in which she was cruelly reprimanded for her choice to not wear make-up. Many bashed her, recommending that she thought she was better or saying she expected to put a bit of make-up all over. She later reacted to the feedback on Twitter saying, “Y’all, me choosing to be makeup free doesn’t mean I’m anti-makeup. Do you!”
