Eight-year-old Sandra Mutwiri and her sister 18-month-old Jerioth Mutwiri were in their mabati house in Kinyago slum, Eastleigh area, when a fire broke out on Thursday night July 14, 2016.
The girls got burnt to death, as rescuers were unable to reach them in time.
The fire, whose cause Nairobi CID boss Ireri Kamwende said is yet to be established, razed down about eight houses, according to The Star.
Kamwende said property worth millions of shillings was destroyed in the inferno.
She had left water boiling on a stove, which is suspected to have resulted in an explosion in the wooden structure atop a residential flat.
A week before that, two children aged 12 years and 11 months burnt beyond recognition in Mogotio sub-county after their mother locked them inside the house and left for the night.
The mother, who is reportedly an alcoholic, went missing following the incident.
