Shocking video of Nigerian baby born with heart outside the body

This video shows a woman in Garin Gaidam, Yobe state holding her newborn son gave with his heart beating outside his chest.


The woman gave birth at home but was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital, Maiduguri, Borno State for proper medical attention.


Ectopia cordis is a congenital malformation in which the heart is abnormally located either partially or totally outside of the thorax. The ectopic heart can be found along a spectrum of anatomical locations, including the neck, chest, or abdomen. In most cases, the heart protrudes outside the chest through a split breastbone.

According to statistics, the disease affects only one in eight million and nine out of 10 sufferers are stillborn or die within three days.

We hope for an exception for this Yobe baby.
