The late musician and producer OJB had concluded plans to sell off his house in Lagos to complete his savings for a new surgery abroad before he died yesterday.
His wife who donated her kidney also said that she doesn't regret the action.
Some of the late OJB’s close aides told TheNetNg that the he had finalised plans to sell his Surulere residence for N50m to an unidentified commercial bank.
‘You know he’s been saving money to go for another surgery that would gulp close to $150,000 and he didn’t want it to go public, so the plan was to sell the house. As a matter of fact we would have sold the house about three weeks back but a document was missing. Now we have the document and they were supposed to come and make the payment at 4pm today but Baba don die’ one of them said yesterda
Confirming the story, another source said ‘Baba just wanted to sell the house and travel abroad, then when he returns he wanted to relocate to his other house in Abuja. Now we are all sad because we all had commissions from the sale of the house, but God knows best’.
Meanwhile, In 2013, when OJB was diagnosed of kidney failure, his first wife Mabel Babatunde Okungbowa fondly called ‘Mama J‘ came to his rescue by donating one of her kidneys to save her husband’s life. That decision is one she says she doesn’t regret despite the death of her husband yesterday.
Also, while speaking with TheNetNg, Mabel narrated OJB’s last moments saying, ‘it wasn’t really dramatic, it was just the normal signs we see when he’s about going for his dialysis but this time he was in a lot of pains and I was by his side all through.’ She continued, ‘this is all so sudden because we were still speaking about plans for his 50th birthday over the weekend’.
When asked how she feels about donating her kidney to him three years ago, she said, ‘I don’t regret it, I did it because I wanted to. I wasn’t forced to do it. After all he’s my husband, so I don’t regret it’.
may his soul rest in perfect peace
