Police authorities in Kano state, north western Nigeria, have confirmed that the husband of the woman beheaded yesterday over alleged blasphemy on Prophet Mohammed, is safe and in a protective custody.
This follows apprehension raised over the fate of the husband who was with his wife at the time of the incident.
The spokesman of the police in Kano, DSP Musa Majia said “the timely intervention of its operatives saved the husband who was in company of the wife at the market from being lynched alongside the wife.”
The beheaded 45-year-old woman, an Igbo petty plastic material seller, was killed by youths who claimed she committed blasphemy against Prophet Mohammed during an argument that ensued in the Kofar Wambai market located in the heart of the ancient city.
According to him, at about 4.30 pm Thursday, there was a disagreement between the late woman and some traders bordering on religion.
”The woman was said to have blasphemed against Prophet Mohammed, which did not go down well with them. At that point, some irate mob descended on the woman and lynched her to death instantly by slitting her throat.
The woman was in company of her husband when the incident happened but the timely intervention of the police saved the husband, who was immediately whisked to safety,” explained Majiya.
Majiya also said that the corpse of the has been deposited in the hospital for further investigation.
