Babur Karamat Raja, 41, repeatedly stabbed his pregnant 40-year-old lover,  Natalie Queiroz in Sutton Coldfield town centre, West Midlands, UK.

She and her child were ultimately saved by the intervention of passers-by. He pleaded guilty last month to attempted murder following the attack that took place on 4 March.

He also admitted to attempting child destruction, possessing a knife in public and wounding and assaulting two passers-by.

Birmingham Crown Court heard how Ms Queiroz's breast implants "were probably what saved her life" during the assault and sentenced Raja to 18 months in jail.

In a statement, issued today after Babur Karamat Raja was sentenced to an 18-year prison sentence, she said: "I am unable to find the words to describe how I feel about today and the events of the last 16 weeks, other than I have been left devastated by the attack on 4 March.

"The attack he committed on me was completely unprovoked and totally unexpected. Luckily I was saved and my baby was born alive."
In a victim impact statement read to Birmingham Crown Court, Ms Queiroz said: "I am destroyed, I feel deceived and betrayed. I cry every single day.

She said there were 'dark days', adding: "I find it difficult not to be in constant fear."
Raja apologised to his victim in a letter to the judge and to those he injured as they tried to help her.
