David R. Wilson, 33, was sentenced to life in prison after he was found guilty of sexually molesting a toddler and a young girl and subsequently infecting them with HIV. At the time of his arrest, Wilson was already a registered sex offender, as he was convicted of sexually assaulting another 14-year-old girl in 2005.
Although he spent four years in prison and was a registered sex offender, David R. Wilson was living in a Houston, Texas, home with two young girls in 2013. It is unclear how the 14-year-old was related to the defendant. However, the 23-month-old was his niece. Authorities said the toddler was sent to live in Houston as her parents were habitual drug users.
In November 2014, the toddler underwent a medical examination for a genital injury and other unexplained symptoms. Doctors later confirmed the 23-month-old girl tested positive for chlamydia, HIV, and genital herpes. She was also forced to undergo reconstructive surgery on her genitals.
Medical officials informed authorities that the young girl was a victim of sexual abuse due to the injuries and the STDs.
Tests were carried out on four people who lived at the Houston residence, including David R. Wilson, who tested positive for HIV and reportedly told investigators he was receiving treatment for chlamydia. It is unclear why he was not arrested at that time based on this evidence and his history as a convicted pedophile.
