Police on Monday released a photo of Ahmad Khan Rahami, an Afghan immigrant and naturalized U.S. citizen declared wanted with regards to the bombings experienced in Manhattan, New York and a New Jersey shore town.
He is in custody on $5.2m bail after being charged with five counts of attempted murder of police officers though federal prosecutors have not related to the bombings, The Guardian reports.
Rahami was arrested after a gunfight in nearby Linden today at 11:20 a.m. which is 4:20a.m. WAT.
A man who claimed to be a childhood friend of the 28-year-old Rahami told the Herald the suspect made a startling trip to Afghanistan two years ago.
"At one point he left to go to Afghanistan, and two years ago he came back, popped up out of nowhere and he was real religious," friend Flee Jones, 27, said of the suspect. "And it was shocking. I'm trying to understand what's going on. I've never seen him like this."
