Guard who stabbed woman 66 times says he ‘didn’t mean to kill her’

A security guard accused of viciously stabbing a woman 66 times says he had no intention to murder her.

"The stabbing happened while we were fighting, but I didn’t mean to kill her," the 24-year-old Pakistani told the Dubai Criminal Court on Sunday.

The boyfriend of the Filipina victim called police after finding her body in the flat they shared in International City on February 18.

The guard helped police to interview tenants, during which officers noticed scratches on his face and arms.

"He was completely normal as he helped us, then when we questioned him about the scratches, he said he caused them while shaving," an Emirati policeman said.

During interrogations, the guard denied stabbing the victim, but later confessed to killing her "as revenge because she screamed at him and kicked a water bucket he was using to clean the corridor next to her flat", said the officer.

"He told us that when she opened the door, he took her by surprise and stabbed her in the abdomen and the chest," he said.

She scratched his face while fighting for her life. When the knife fell from his hand, he smashed a small fish tank on her head. The next hearing is expected on August 23.
