Despite being advertised on billboards around Lagos, according to organisers of the legend edition, which soccer icon Pele was meant to attend in Lagos, he will not be able to make it down this time.
A statement by the organisers made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said that the event was postponed due to reports of the world football legend’s ill health on Aug. 5. The organizers had at a news conference on July 16, announced that the Pele would be in the country for a two-day programme starting on Aug. 11.
“We are sorry that we have to disappoint the many Pele fans and legend of edition supporters at this time who are looking forward to this event. “As we pray for his speedy and full recovery, we believe that it would be inconsiderate for us to put his health at risk.
“Our ticketing platforms will be offering a full refund on all ticket purchased and a new date for the event will be announced over the course of the next few weeks.
“We hope the new dates will be suitable for everyone. “The decision to postpone the event did not come easily and we want to express gratitude to sponsors and stakeholders,’’ the statement said.
