20th birthday turns to tragedy as 13 die of poisoning and one fighting for life.

The 20th birthday party of a policewoman, named Ophélie A., ended in tragedy  early Saturday when the candles on her cake sparked an inferno.

The person who carried the birthday cake tripped on the stairs leading to the basement and the candles on the cake started the fire which ignited sound-insulating material on the basement's walls.

The poison from the material killed the party guests who had no time to escape from the basement .The bodies are still being identified.

The Cuba Libre bar in Rouen, northern France is being questioned about whether it complied with fire regulations.

One of the guests, Karima, suffered burns to nearly 90 per cent of her body. She was rushed to a hospital in Paris where she was fighting for her life.
