Nigeria: Senator Dino Melaye denies using abusive language against Senator Tinubu

Senator Dino Melaye, who is representing Kogi West, has been in the news for a few days over his threat and for abusing Senator Oluremi Tinubu (Lagos Central Senatorial District) on Thursday, has denied the filthy words he reportedly used on her, but confirmed that the incident did take place.

According to Sahara Reporters, speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Mr. Melaye admitted his furious outburst, but said he never said he would impregnate her, contrary to what various senators in attendance confirmed to the media.

(Can many witnesses lie against one person at the same time)?

“How could I have said I would beat and impregnate her at the same time?” he asked, denying the use of any “insolent, abusive, degrading and mannerless language against any Senator”. Mr. Melaye added that "biologically it is even impossible to impregnate Mrs Tinubu because she has arrived at menopause."

He did not, however, say what language he deployed during his reported outburst during which he charged at Mrs. Tinubu.

The wife of the APC National Leader incurred his wrath when she responded to a previous statement by Mr. Melaye, cautioning him that there was no need for him to threaten those members who had offered to serve as prosecution witnesses in the federal government’s alleged forgery case against Senate President Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.

Of his response to her, he said, “I did it because I am not a coward.”

Despite the press statement, it is unclear if Mr. Melaye has apologized to Mrs. Tinubu or her husband.

Criticizing him earlier in the day, the APC in Lagos State asked him to “move quickly to apologize to Senator Oluremi Tinubu and her beloved husband Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and have the statement credited to him withdrawn without any further delay.”
