Up to 19 people are feared dead and dozens seriously injured after a man went on the rampage with a knife in a disabled care home in Japan.
The knifeman attacked a building, a home for the disabled, in the city of of Sagamihara, west of Tokyo.
The suspect reportedly said 'I want to get rid of the disabled from this world'.
According to local reports he is a former employee of the home.
Police received a call from staff of the Tsukui Yamayuri Garden, just after 2.30 a.m local time following reports a man armed with a knife had been seen in the premise.
He later broke into the building with the knife; police confirmed 15 people were killed and 45 injured.
He reportedly told officers: "I did it."
It is believed the killing is the deadliest since the 1938 Tsuyama massacre which left 31 dead.
