Kidney laser treatment at Kelina Hospital Abuja

This video is a documentary based on a program organised by the Federal Ministry of Health in Abuja for Hospitals in Nigeria to highlight available health services in Nigeria.

The index patient had recurrent pain in the flank (the area that lies between the back and lower rib), and persistent infection in the urine that did not clear with antibiotic treatment.
Further investigations showed that one kidney was not functioning well because of stones.
Stones were treated with laser lithotripsy, broken fragments were extracted and patient went home same day.

This video is for general education of the public to demonstrate that kidney stones can sometimes cause persistent infection in the urine; that laser treatment is available in Nigeria and that patients can get stones removed completely without a big wound or scar on their bodies.

Cost of treatment that leaves no scar on the skin is similar to cost of open surgical operation that is more painful, more traumatic to uninvolved neighboring organs, bloodier, fraught with more complications, requires longer hospital admission and leaves bigger wounds on the skin which could also leave very bad scars.
