Hall of famer and NBA legend Nate Thurmond passes on

Warriors Legend Nate Thurmond Dies at 74

Nate Thurmond, voted one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA history and a member of the Warriors organization for more than four decades as both a player and a Community Relations Ambassador, passed away on Saturday morning in San Francisco at the age of 74 after a short battle with leukemia.


Thurmond  is considered among the most-dominating centers  to ever play the game of basketball, Thurmond was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1985. 

A seven-time NBA All-Star, he earned NBA All-Defensive First or Second Team accolades five times.

A very tall man at 6-foot, 11-inch Thurmond spent almost 40 years playing and working for the Warriors. He played 11 of his 14 seasons with the Warriors, and then worked as a community liaison and broadcast analyst. He holds the franchise's record for rebounds and minutes played.

The Warriors retired his jersey number 42 in 1978.
