Florida boy, 8, kills himself with handgun

It's high time something is done about the kind of access that children in America have to guns.

An 8-year-old boy died after shooting himself in Port Orange, Florida, on Friday, police said.

The boy's 12-year-old brother gave him CPR with the help of a neighbor until rescuers arrived to the Hudson Lane home about noon, Lt. Kimberly Kilpatrick said.

The boys, who haven't been identified, were in the home with their 80-year-old great grandfather, who was in another room when the boy fired the 9mm handgun, officials said.

He was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach with a gunshot to the "upper torso" and pronounced dead shortly after.

"It is still being investigated as to where the firearm was originally located in the home," Kilpatrick said.

The boys' mother was notified and is helping officials with the investigation.

No other details have been released.
