In the wake of a series of attacks in France and Germany, Australian children as young as 14 could be put under surveillance by anti-terror police.
The country's Prime Minister who hopes to reform ant-terror laws, plans to jail terrorist for life if they pose an ongoing danger to society upon their release.
Australia’s current anti-terror laws apply to those aged 16 and over but the age limit will be reduced to accomodate 14 and 15-year-olds.
Convicted terrorists at a high risk of reoffending will be detained indefinitely under the new proposals.
Mr Turnbull said: "The measures we are announcing today are designed to deter terrorism, prevent it, ensure that the nation and our people are kept safe. He compared the measures to those used against some child-sexual offenders.
"It will provide a very real incentive for people in prison for terrorist offences not to engage in continued extremist activity."
