The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, has donated Lassa Fever Personal Protective items and drugs to the Delta State Government as part of its efforts to promote healthy living in the commission’s mandate states.
Presenting the items to the state government in Asaba, the acting Managing Director of the NDDC, Mrs Ibim Semenitari, said the materials worth millions of Naira were being distributed across the nine states in the NDDC mandate area. Semenitari, who was represented by the commission’s Delta State Director, Mr Gbubemi Ogor expressed the commitment of the commission to the prevention of the Lassa Fever epidemic in the mandate states of the commission.
She said that the donation was aimed at saving the lives of those infected and protecting the healthcare givers against infection, adding that the health of the people was of paramount importance to the Federal Government and appealed for the judicious use of the items.
Receiving the items, the Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr Nicholas Azinge, commended NDDC for its contributions to the development and well being of the people in its mandate states. Saying that the commission has done well as an interventionist agency, Azinge assured that the items would be put to good use.
