Heavy rain injures 7 children in IDP camps

A devastating rainstorm occurred on Monday evening in Adamawa State and has left seven children attending a school for displaced children in the Sabon Gari area of the Girei Local Government Area fatally injured, The Punch reports.


The incident followed a downpour that some residents of the locality described as unusual


The storm destroyed several rooftops in Yola, the Adamawa state capital.

Over 300 rooftops were blown away in the storm and these included that of Sabon Gari Primary School, were over 40 children displaced by insurgency were having classes when the stormed started around 3:45pm on Monday evening.

The Executive Secretary of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency, Haruna Furo, confirmed the damage wrought by the storm in the IDP camp in the state, saying remedial measures had already been taken.
