Women get their own security lines at Chinese airports

Is this girl power or discrimination?

The head of security at Beijing Capital International Airport has said instead that passengers are gradually becoming more consciousness of privacy protection.

After a three-month trial  Beijing Capital International Airport has decided to implement long-term women-specific lines in its T1, T2, and T3 terminals.

While security measures are the same, officers in the lanes, marked by bright pink signs that say “Female Only” in Chinese and English, are all female.

According to The New York Times, Shenzhen, Kunming, and Wuhan metropolises have also done the same, with one government official telling media that women's bags of cosmetics need to be opened, and therefore require greater inspection. Still, for women moving through the lines, it's about something else.

"We feel more comfortable when our coats and suitcases are checked by female security inspectors. I think this seems like a VIP service for women," one woman told People's China Daily after her security check. Women with children are also able to move through the designated security lines.
