Nigeria: 2500 women screened for cancer, blood pressure

The free health screening programme of  the wife of Nigeria’s President,  Mrs. Aisha Buhari, has screened more than 2, 500 women across the 33 local governments in Oyo State in south-western Nigeria.


The women were screened on Thursday for breast and cervical cancer, blood sugar, blood pressure, among other ailments.

Mrs. Buhari, who flagged off the programme in Ibadan, as part of her pet project tagged “Future Assured Initiative, stressed the need for Nigerians to be proactive in seeking medical attention by regular visits to healthcare centres for regular medical examination.
.
She said that that the programme, which will continue across the country, was aimed at raising awareness on the importance of regular medical checkups in line with ensuring healthy lives and promoting the wellbeing of Nigerians.

The initiative, which has women and children as its target, provides medical services that cover blood pressure, blood sugar, breast examination, eye and dental check up, cervical cancer screening, genotype screening for sickle cell disease, de-worming of children and Vitamin A supplementation.
